A neon sign is usually the single most photographed object in a cafe, and Instagram has made it the most-requested item on our shop floor. It's also the product people find hardest to budget for, because "a neon sign" can mean a single glowing word or a two-metre multi-colour mural. Here's how the pricing actually works.
The quick maths
Neon is quoted on the overall area the design occupies — width × height of the finished piece.
- A compact 2 ft × 3 ft sign — a short phrase for a cafe wall — is 6 sq. ft, so it starts around Rs. 11,400.
- A larger 4 ft × 3 ft statement piece is 12 sq. ft — from about Rs. 22,800 at the starting rate.
1. Design complexity. Every bend in the tube is handwork. A clean script word is quick; an intricate logo with tight curves takes hours more shaping. Simple designs genuinely cost less — this isn't a product where the price is made up at the end.
2. Colour segments. Each separate colour is a separate LED segment with its own wiring. One warm-white phrase is the budget option; a five-colour piece costs meaningfully more.
3. The backing. Clear acrylic backing is standard and disappears against the wall. Cut-to-shape backing, coloured boards, or open metal frames change the look — and the price.
4. Indoor or outdoor. Outdoor neon needs weather-sealed housing and sturdier mounting. If it's going outside a storefront, say so in the first message; it changes the build.
LED neon vs. glass neon — an honest word
Almost everything sold as "neon" in Nepal today is LED neon flex: silicone tubing with LED strips inside. It's brighter per watt, safe to touch, doesn't shatter, and sips electricity — which matters at Nepali commercial power rates. Traditional glass neon has a beautiful glow and we respect it, but for shops, cafes and homes, LED neon is the right call for almost everyone. If someone quotes you dramatically cheaper, ask whether the LEDs are branded strips or the kind that dims to orange within a year — that's usually where the difference hides.
Making it last
A neon sign runs every evening for years, so the unglamorous parts decide its lifespan: the transformer quality, the joints, and the mounting. Ours are built on the same floor as our 3D letters and lightboxes, wired by people who also do storefront electrical work — and if anything fails, the workshop that built it is in Teku, not overseas.
